HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year and welcome back! In mid-December, students were hard at work preparing for and taking their mid-term exams and looking forward to their long winter break. Now, we’re back! We are rested, happy, and ready for a new year and for our second semester. We hope everyone enjoyed their Winter Break. We’ve got lots of good things in store for the second half of the 2017-2018 School Year!

COMING SOON…RACE DAY!

The 27th Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K will fill Austin’s streets with over 17,000 runners on Sunday, Feb 18, 2018. More than 75,000 visitors are expected to explore the Health & Fitness Expo (Friday and Saturday) and approximately 17,000 runners will race and meander through the streets of Austin and 100,000 spectators will line the streets to cheer them on!

The run takes place on open roads around the city and, along the way, runners will enjoy Austin landmarks like The UT Tower, the I Love You So Much painting at Joe’s Hot Coffee on South Congress Avenue, and the peaceful terrain of Lady Bird Lake. Runners from around the world flood to our fair city to be a part of this extraordinary event (the 25th largest marathon in the US) and to finish in front of the State Capitol Building on Congress Avenue.

Odyssey School is so proud to be a part of The Austin Marathon for the SEVENTH YEAR IN A ROW! The Marathon organizers have the goal of creating meaningful partnerships and to help improve the lives of those in the community, and Odyssey is humbled (once again) to be a benefactor of this goodwill. Our students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators arrive at our designated water stop, along the race route, as the sun is rising. Rain or shine, they will be there to set up tables with cups and fill those cups with water or Gatorade and offer those to runners who need hydration on the route.

We also have an energetic and fun group of students who stage a cheering section to encourage runners along the route. Students have also been working hard on creating encouraging and entertaining posters and signs for race day. Odyssey’s group of volunteers is consistently praised for the hard work and dedication given to this endeavor.

Odyssey’s Head of School, the Executive Board, as well as students, families and friends of Odyssey are so appreciative of the time and energy each Odyssey Team member is putting into training, fundraising, and spreading the word about the amazing work Odyssey does for students who learn differently. These efforts are making a difference students’ lives and ensuring that Odyssey can continue its mission and commitment to the development of academic excellence and self-acceptance for students who struggle in traditional educational settings. We believe that all children can be successful in their intellectual, creative, and social development. Our goal is to help every student discover their individual potential for greatness.
