Connections

One of the benefits of being a small school is that Odyssey staff is able to coordinate closely with each other. This has led to our wildly successful Connection program, where teachers blend classes together and deliver lessons that are applicable to both subjects and interesting to the students. The curricular content for both teachers is enhanced by the program, and the students have further opportunity to see how knowledge and learning are not bound by subject and are, in fact, dynamic and boundless.

Some examples from the Connections program this year:

  • Math/Science: The Physics of Sport – students explored measurement, statistics, physics, and movement through activities involving team sports.
  • Social Studies/Math: The Money Academy – through games and investigations, students explored the fundamentals of saving, investing, and spending.
  • Language Arts/Science: The Second Annual Film Fest – where students wrote and directed short films that had their annual science fair experiments wrapped inside the narrative.
  • Social Studies/Science: Legendary Experiments – students performed experiments exploring the work of historically significant scientists like Nikolai Tesla, Thomas Edison, Galileo Galilee, and Alexander Graham Bell, then learned about the historical context in which these breakthroughs occurred.
