Odyssey School's Partner with Parents announces a year-long focus on Communication. We will look at a variety of learning differences and explore how the individual?s ability to understand others and express themselves has a profound effect on their academic, emotional, and social skills.
October 17th: The ABCs of ADD - Linda Classen, M.Ed., LPC. Linda, a well-known and respected expert in the area of Attention Deficit Disorder will discuss core symptoms and management strategies for disorders of self-control.
November 14th: Speech and Language Impairments - Stephanie Jasuta, Ph.D, CCC-SLP. Dr. Jasuta is a Speech and Language Pathologist at Odyssey School and also owner and director of Speech, Language and Hearing Services since August 1982. She will explore the impact of language on all areas of development, and the function of content, form, and use in diagnosing and treating students with language impairments.
December 12th: Teaching Communication the Odyssey Way -The teaching staff of Odyssey School will take participants through a variety of activities used to teach cooperation, self-awareness, and acceptance of self and others. We will be sharing techniques from our Tribes and Learning about Learning curriculums. CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME!! You will have fun and learn about yourself.
February 20th: Life after Odyssey? Transitions are difficult for all children; adolescents with learning differences are particularly vulnerable to changes. We will have an opportunity to communicate with alumni parents and students, as well as an expert who can help guide us in choosing the right High School.
March 27th: What is Asperger Syndrome? (Re-Schedualed due to Ice Day) - Kim McDaniel, Special educator and parent, will address the challenges and joys of teaching and raising a child with Asperger Syndrome. How can we help students with this communication disorder at home and in the classroom? What is the Autistic Spectrum and where does your child or student fit in?
April 17th: State of School Address and Pot Luck Dinner - Odyssey Head of School, Nancy Wolf, Assistant Head of School, John Brinson, and members of the Board of Directors will give an overview on how well we have reached our goals for the current year and what lies ahead for the future.
Partner with Parents programs facilitate a partnership between parent, student, school, and community in order to help our children find individual success. All programs are free of charge and last from 7:00-8:30 PM (unless otherwise specified). Light snacks and school-age child care provided with advance notice. Call the office at 472-2262.
