Background:
Curiosity hasn’t killed this cat. I love to explore through travel, books, conversation, creative expression, film, music, etc. I have absorbed a lot through different career tracks. I held a license in cosmetology and worked as a hair stylist for several years. I held a license in real estate and worked as an agent while I went back to school.
I graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Applied Learning and Development with teaching certification for grades 1-8, with a Reading endorsement. I have Special Education Certification, grades K-12.
Teaching Philosophy:
At the root of my teaching philosophy for the art of language is practice. I provide the time, resources and support for each individual to go as far as they can. Project-based learning is integral to foster independence and empowerment. We read and write a lot; the genre is dependent on the project we are working on. I use a variety of assessment tools to measure our progress and address the multiple intelligences of the individual.
The Odyssey Difference:
I teach at Odyssey because each student is treated as unique.I enjoy the give and take that we share on the bigger projects: Top Chef cooking competition, the Road Trip Connections project, Sci-Fi movie making, etc. I enjoy the electric, A-HA! moments that erupt throughout the year.
Odyssey provides all of us – students, teachers, parents and support staff – the opportunity to be lifelong learners in an innovative, supportive environment.
