Lisa Bovee – Teacher

Background

I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with majors in English/Literature and Rhetoric/Writing. I am currently working on a Master’s degree in Rhetoric & Composition where my research and subsequent writings focus on composition teaching theories and practices. Subsequently, I have been a guest speaker at academic workshops and symposiums regarding this highly discussed and researched topic. I bring to Odyssey, not only my enthusiasm and knowledge of teaching reading and writing, but also many years of leadership, volunteer, teaching, and other work experience from Leander ISD, Austin Community College, and Texas State University.

Educational Philosophy

“The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil.”

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Respect is the fuel I use to encourage, excite, and propel my students toward enthusiastic learning and academic success. I understand (and respect) that we all learn differently, and I gear my daily lessons around that fact. I also firmly believe Joseph Addison was correct when he wrote, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body” (The Tatler, No. 147). Reading and writing are the staples of learning and, if you visit my classroom, you will see that fun and exciting reading and writing activities exist in abundance. My daily goal is to keep students engaged, energized, and curious about reading and writing, which will ultimately lead to a life-long love of learning.

The Odyssey Difference

I loved Odyssey the moment I stepped through the front door. I value the individual focus on the students and their respective differences and learning styles. We, at Odyssey, have a rare and fortunate opportunity to make a positive and perhaps everlasting personal and academic impact on our students’ lives – these possibilities motivate me.
